Go to our contact page and email us for more info. Call from U.S.: 480-478-4201; from Mexico: 638.110.70.59; Email: Rescue@RedAndTerri.org. Our local veterinarian, Fernando Rincon Balderrama on Sonora Blvd. here in Rocky Point is performing spay/neuter procedures for just 200 pesos (about $17.00 USD). Through the Give Some Life foundation out of San Diego our local vets learned a new technique. It takes about 15 minutes (not including pre-op and post-op) and is a less invasive procedure. You can call Dr. Rincon's office directly at 638.383.33.44.

9 adoptions this week!!! The volunteer veterinarian who participated, John Heller, D.V.M. was amazing. It was 2 1/2 days long in 110 degree or higher temperatures with over 80% humidity. 21 female puppies/dogs were spayed; 10 male puppies/dogs were neutered; 1 cat was spayed and 1 kitten was neutered. A total of 33 animals.

All the animals here at "Red & Terri's Puppy Rescue, A.C." are now spayed or neutered (except for "Tiny" (a 3 week old rescue puppy and 3 baby Chihuahua rescue's that were too young or small).

To continue with this program your donations are needed. On August 25th and 26th of 2009. Two Arizona Vet's are coming to participate in an event that we anticipate to happen many more times in the future. A 2 day spay/neuter clinic. We know that there will be kinks to work out and that it will be very hard the first time. Nevertheless, we and the vets are all very excited in what we are about to accomplish.

We are working very hard here in Puerto Penasco, Mexico rescuing and taking care of abandoned puppies from The Streets and deserts. We are a no-kill shelter and a Licensed Mexican Non-Profit Association (Asociacion Civil).

We are accepting donation's to help make our first spay / neuter clinic a success. If you would like to donate please go to our website at http://www.RedAndTerri.org and click on the yellow donate button and then follow the instructions.

All donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Red & Terri Fielding
Puppy Rescuer's

Saving puppies with Parvo. Yes you can.

Hey everybody out there rescuing street or desert puppies, dogs, mutts, etc. We have found a combination of medicine's readily available here in Mexico that work for saving a puppy's life that has contracted Parvo.

Medicine needed:

Virustad (given intramuscularly)
Proteizoo Plus (given intramuscularly)
Emetin (for vomiting (given intramuscularly))
Diarrefin (for diarrhea (given orally))
Infantil or Children's Tylenol (for fever and pain (given orally))

The Virustad and Proteizoo Plus are specifically for the parvo virus. Use equal amounts of each, the correct amount for the weight of the dog, in a syringe that is injected intramuscularly, once a day, for three days. The weight to medicine ratio is on every Virustad bottle.

The Emetin is for vomiting. Vomiting will dehydrate a puppy fast and one of the biggest contributing factor's in losing a puppy to parvo. Controlling the puppies bodily fluids is important in reducing the spread of the disease. I usually add the Emetin to the Virustad/Proteizoo Plus combo in the morning and then give another intramuscular shot of Emetin in the evening. Emetin is injected intramuscularly, twice a day, until the puppy no longer needs it (usually 1 to 2 days).

The Diarrefin controls the diarrhea. This is given orally. Controlling diarrhea is important as diarrhea will also dehydrate a puppy quickly plus you want to control the spread of the Parvovirus to other animals. Diarrefin is given orally, twice a day, until the puppy no longer needs it (usually 3 to 5 days).

Drastic improvements should be seen in 24 to 30 hours and a complete recovery in 3 to 5 days.

Also, it is imperative to be diligent in preventing dehydration and malnutrition during this time. During the lst and 2nd days a puppy will quit eating and drinking water. It takes only a few hours to see the detrimental effects that this has. We keep puppy formula on hand and use it to force feed a puppy for nutritional reasons. We use a dropper with a long tube for feedings and hydrating. After each use we clean the dropper thoroughly with bleach and rinse well. Many times a puppy will not eat or drink and by forcing 5 ml of formula or water will give them just what they need to nourish themselves on their own. By day two force feeding and force hydrating are usually no longer required.

The Infantil or Children's Tylenol is used to reduce a fever in the puppies. Give as needed.

For more information please email us at Rescue@RedAndTerri.org.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://redandterri.blogspot.com/2009/08/saving-puppies-with-parvo-yes-you-can.html' title='Saving puppies with Parvo.
